Helena Huneke was a German artist known for her interdisciplinary approach. Born 1967, in Münster/Westfalen, she studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HfBK) Hamburg from 1988 to 1995, earning a diploma in Industrial and Product Design with a focus on interior design, furniture design, and theory.

In 1997, Huneke worked as an assistant to Professor Ann Wolf at HfBK Hamburg. She received the MAK-Schindler Artist-in-Residence scholarship in Los Angeles (1997–1998), where she developed a distinctive artistic language that informed much of her later work. From 1998 to 2000, she was a member of the influential artist collective Akademie Isotrop, which played a significant role in Hamburg's contemporary art scene. In 2003, she was awarded an artist studio residency at Goldbekhof e.V. in Hamburg.

Throughout her career, Huneke exhibited widely. Her solo shows Montgomery Berlin (2008), Fullerton Art Museum, San Bernardino (1999), and MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles (1998). Her work was shown shortly after her death in Halle für Kunst Lüneburg (2015).

SPARK Art Fair Vienna was  the fist solo presentation of her work after her passing in 10 years.

Her work was also featured in numerous international group exhibitions, such as "Ins Dunkle Schwimmen" at Universitätsgalerie der Angewandten, Vienna (2024), "Painting Forever!" at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2013), and "Formalismus. Moderne Kunst Heute" at Kunstverein Hamburg (2004).

In addition to her visual art practice, Huneke was an active writer, contributing essays, reviews, and image-based texts to publications such as Starship, Texte zur Kunst, Metalic, and Rand-los Magazin. She engaged in editorial and critical writing, including contributions to exhibition catalogs and artistic manifestos. In 2012, she launched the website "automotor.cc," further expanding her creative discourse into digital platforms.

Helena Huneke's legacy endures through her innovative practice, critical engagement with contemporary art discourse, and her influence on the German and international art scenes. She passed away in Berlin in November 2012.
